Did you miss us? Apologies for the brief, one-week hiatus, but we had to cross our T’s, dot our I’s, and let the chaos play out before bringing you the real gospel.
What do the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force and Arsenal FC have in common? Simple: They don't bottle it when the lights get bright.
Last week, both franchises emphatically shattered 20-plus-year droughts to deliver league titles to their starved, loyal fanbases.
The Arsenal Redemption
In the English Premier League, Arsenal permanently ripped off the "bottlers" tag. The Gunners clinched the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years, officially dethroning Liverpool.
In a twist of fate, Arsenal sealed the crown without even kicking a ball. City’s 1-1 draw away to Bournemouth confirmed them as runners-up, allowing Arsenal to coast to the title by a commanding seven-point margin.
Arsenal fans could be staring at an even higher peak as they prepare to face defending champions PSG in the Champions League final on May 30. Some North London purists might still be a bit annoyed, however, as bitter rivals Tottenham narrowly avoided relegation by eking out a 1-0 win over Everton on the final matchday.
Red Force Reign Supreme
While Arsenal was handling business in Europe, the Red Force ended a gruelling 20-year pursuit for regional Four-Day glory. T&T copped the 2026 West Indies Championship with a clinical, convincing victory over the outgoing champions, the Guyana Harpy Eagles.
Clutch Performances: Before officially announcing his retirement from regional Four-Day cricket, opener Evin Lewis anchored the Red Force with a masterful second-innings century, while Jayden Seales put on an absolute clinic with a stunning all-round performance.
With Trinidad and Tobago capturing their first four-day title after years of heartbreak, TTCB president Azim Bassarath immediately called on the government to honour the squad with a national award. We can’t promise the TTCB boss a national honour is a done deal, but the precedent is there; the government famously blessed the Trinbago Knight Riders with the Chaconia Medal Gold after their 2025 CPL triumph.
Golden Runs and Playoff Dominance
The championship DNA didn’t stop on the cricket pitch.
Cyclist Teniel Campbell has left the competition completely in her wake at the National Track Cycling Championships. At the National Cycling Centre in Couva, the endurance rider captured titles in the women’s individual pursuit and the 1 km time trial before enduring a gruelling 120-lap ride. To add the points race title to her collection. Three entries, three gold medals. No notes.
Speaking of the number three, New York Knicks fans are flying high. The Knicks took a commanding 3-0 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals with a 121-108 victory. After the Cavs spectacularly blew a 22-point lead late in Game 1, the Knicks took total control of the series. They now look destined for their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999.
Record Breakers and European Royalty
To wrap up this edition of Fiasco Mag, we have to shine a spotlight on individual brilliance and continental dominance.
Bruno Fernandes capped off a spectacular campaign by being named the EPL Player of the Year. The Manchester United playmaker scored and assisted in a 3-0 rout of Brighton, officially breaking the Premier League single-season assist record with 21 assists, surpassing the legendary mark of 20 previously shared by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.
Meanwhile, Barcelona Femeni gave the world a masterclass in how to close out a tournament. The Catalan giants stormed to the Women’s Champions League crown with a crushing 4-0 demolition of OL Lyonnais in the Oslo final. This marks Barca’s third Champions League title in four seasons, a flawless, dominant response to the 1-0 heartbreak they suffered against Arsenal in last year's final.
