The last week in sport delivered milestones for Trinidadian cricketers, while Caribbean talent once again stamped its authority on the global stage.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Sunil Narine became the first overseas player to reach 200 wickets in tournament history, returning two for 31 in Kolkata Knight Riders’ seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. He joins Yuzvendra Chahal (228) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (215) as the only bowlers to hit the landmark, and remains the first to do so for a single franchise.

Barbadian all-rounder Jason Holder also made headlines, producing back-to-back Man of the Match performances to power Gujarat Titans past Punjab Kings and reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Against Punjab, he delivered his best IPL figures, four for 24, as Gujarat edged home with a ball to spare.

Before Narine’s milestone, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force captain Joshua Da Silva had his own landmark in sight. He struck a First-Class best of 220 against the Leeward Islands Hurricanes at the Antigua Recreation Ground. While the match ended in a draw, the innings strengthens his case for a West Indies Test recall. Next up is a semifinal against Barbados Pride on May 10.

In Europe, the UEFA Champions League semifinals delivered chaos and brilliance in equal measure.

PSG edged Bayern Munich 5–4 in a nine-goal thriller at the Parc des Princes. Braces from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and 2025 Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé powered a relentless attacking display that left fans breathless.

The other semifinal was far tighter. Arsenal and Atletico Madrid played out a 1–1 draw in Spain, leaving everything to decide in the return leg.

As Europe’s elite battle for continental supremacy, change is also underway closer to home. Derek King has been confirmed as permanent head coach of Trinidad and Tobago’s men’s football team. Appointed interim coach on March 6 following Dwight Yorke’s departure, his elevation was confirmed by TTFA president Kieron Edwards on I95.5 FM. His first assignment comes on June 9, when T&T face Russia in a friendly.

In the NBA, playoff drama peaked with two Game 7 showdowns.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and top-seeded Detroit Pistons advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals after dispatching the Toronto Raptors and Orlando Magic respectively. Detroit’s series win stood out, as they overturned a 3–1 deficit to complete a gritty comeback and book their place in the next round.

Attention now shifts forward. The 76ers open their semifinal campaign against the New York Knicks, while the San Antonio Spurs face the Minnesota Timberwolves in a Western Conference clash. Defending champions Oklahoma City Thunder take on the LA Lakers in a heavyweight matchup.

And finally, speed.

Jamaica once again underlined its sprinting dominance, this time rewriting the record books twice in one day.

At the World Athletics Relay Championships in Botswana, the mixed 4x100m team set a world record of 39.99 seconds in qualifying before going even faster in the final—39.62—to secure gold. The quartet of Ackeem Blake, Kadrian Goldson, and twins Tia and Tina Clayton outpaced Canada and the United States in a commanding finish.

The Jamaican women’s 4x100m team also struck gold, clocking 42.00 seconds to complete a dominant sprinting statement on the world stage.
